The Future of Journalism: Through My Eyes   1 comment

The Rise and Fall of Pay Walls:

In order to keep the newspaper business operating at a profit more papers will move to an online pay wall. I believe that it will be a struggle to gain viewers to their online sites. Readers will discover new ways to obtain the news they wish to read and will avoid the pay wall. The pay walls will then be removed.

Digital Media Convergence:

This has begun and has been successful. Almost every news source has linked to twitter or facebook. More reporters will have personal sites where they will post their stories. This will allow more readers to access and even comment on the stories. This convergence will increase readership and help the journalists reach out to their readers.

Smaller Newsrooms:

As the amount of readers and revenue drop to all time lows news papers will have to make cuts. This will come at the cost of their journalists. Especially in the new digital era, that allows for one journalist to do the work of three or four.

  1. I completely agree with you about the newspaper cuts, I also predict that that will happen. In addition, that will cause an increase of lost jobs for people who were working for the newspaper companies. You have made a good point about how the digital media convergence will increase readership and help reach out to readers, because the public like to be involved and want to feel like they are contributing to the news in some way.
